Memphis Zoo announces new splash park

Memphis Zoo announces new splash park

The reviews are in, and the Monogram Foods Loves Kids Foundation Splash Park is a huge hit for all ages! The Splash Park opened for Zoo members only for the first week and will open to the public on July 16th. With temperatures staying in the low 100s this summer, the Splash Park is the perfect way to cool off and have some fun before or after hanging out with our animals and exploring the Zoo. Since September 2021, crews have been diligently working to bring our guests this one-of-a-kind splash park. All the water used at the Splash Park will be reclaimed and recirculated through a state-of-the-art filtration system. We hope to bring awareness to our amazing sources of water here in Memphis and educate visitors on the importance of protecting our future by protecting and conserving water. The previously existing water features at the Zoo were always quite popular with guests, so we decided to bring a safe place that can be enjoyed by all even during the hottest days in Memphis. Speaking of Memphis, the Splash Park theme is a tribute to the very beginning of our city since Memphis is named after the ancient city of Memphis, Egypt. The Splash Park is in the same spot where our hippo yard and house stood for over one hundred years! The former hippo house has been transformed into the new Splash Park event center that will be the perfect location for future parties. The Splash Park also has eleven luxury cabanas for rent for parents and guardians to get some much-needed rest and relaxation. The Splash Park contains new public and family restrooms, a lactation room, lockers, and a food cart. Since members were given an early access to the Splash Park, we decided to go ask some kids their favorite things about the park since we knew they would tell us the truth. August, Ava, Molly, Brooke, Heaven, Adeline, and Ambrose all said the dark green slide was their favorite slide and complimented its speed. According to Brendan, “You get a lot of speed and when you hit the bottom it splashes all over you.” Lily said, “I think the waterpark is AWESOME! It is fun to spend time with friends and it’s fun to go down the slides with friends and all that!”. Zoey Kate said, “I love the waterslides and all the sprinklers! It’s watery and I like playing in water. I have a splash pad at home and this one is a lot better”. Zeke said, “I loved the waterslides because we were able to do it all together!” You have heard it here first; the Splash Park is kid approved and the perfect way to cool off during these hot summer days!

We will offer two sessions each day in the morning and afternoon. The morning session will be 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the afternoon session will be 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the ticket booth located at the Splash Park. Tickets are $8 for members and $10 for non-members. We want to send a special thank you to Vortex who designed the park and to all our partners who supported us during the building stage.
