  • Solar Eclipse Day at Memphis Zoo

    Aug 21st, 2017
    11:00am - 3:00pm

A total solar eclipse is occurring for the first time in 99 years. How will animals respond? Memphis Zoo is hosting a Solar Eclipse Day to find out! This event is included with general admission.

    Additional Information:

Animal experts around the globe are predicting that animals will react differently than normal during the eclipse timeline. While Memphis is not in the path of totality, it will be dark for a couple of hours. Memphis Zoo will feature four observation stations for visitors to observe any changes in animal behavior. The four observation stations will be in front of:

    Penguin Rock

    Lion habitat

    Elephant yard

African Veldt hoofstock animal yard, including bongos, Grant’s gazelles and ostriches

Memphis Zoo guests are encouraged to use the hashtag #MZSolarEclipse to share their observations and findings on social media. Photos and videos are also welcome! The Zoo’s official social media accounts will also share observations during this time

NASA’s Megacast Solar Eclipse Event will also be livestreamed on the two large screens in Teton Lodge. Solar Eclipse Day is included with General Admission.

In addition to observation stations, Memphis Zoo will provide 1,000 free solar eclipse glasses to guests, provided by American Paper Optics.
