Who doesn’t love a Zoo baby?

This Saturday, May 8, join us in celebrating the beloved baby day at the Memphis Zoo! Baby day is a chance for us to highlight the newest members of the zoo family. We celebrate this on Mother’s Day weekend to honor all our moms here at the zoo! Check out the list of events for this weekend where you can learn all about the different babies at the zoo! For now, here is a little sneak peak of who you might meet.

First, meet one of our joeys from the outback- “Jake”! “Jake” is only 5 months old and although he is too big for a pouch, he isn’t quite big enough to run around and play with the big boys in the Kangazoo exhibit. “Jake” is a part of our VIP Outback Encounters where you can get up close and learn all about these enthusiastic animals!

In the herpetarium, you will find two of our newest baby residents- the Chinese alligators! Their names are “Bonnie” and “Clyde”. As the Chinese Alligator is critically endangered, it is important to share their story and increase awareness of their status to drive conservation. “Bonnie” and “Clyde” do a great job representing their species and educating the public- and they do so while being super cute!

If you walk over to the farm, you will meet many unique animals, but one very special animal is the harlequin sheep. The newest addition to the sheep herd is a baby girl, “Batgirl”. She was born to mom, “Vixen”, and dad, “Batman”, on March 3, 2021.

Named after a beloved Memphis Athlete, “Ja Raffe” is the baby of the giraffe herd and he is loved by all. He was born on November 10, 2020 to mom, “Angela Kate”, and dad, “Niklas”. “Ja Raffe” is a lively youngster who you can see out on exhibit every day being playful with the other members of his herd.
