Magnolia grandiflora or Southern Magnolia

Their blooms are so fragrant. You walk past opening flowers in the early morning or late evening and the fragrance stays with you. The bloom time is from May through June. Creamy white fragrant flowers are in abundance now.

Magnolias can reach 60 to 80 feet tall with a spread of 30 to 50 feet wide. It is considered evergreen. However, during this bloom time, some leaves fall but not all of them. The top sides of magnolias leaves are shiny and waxy. Some undersides area coarse and hairy. Some leaves have distinctive cinnamon color or gray. These aid in identifying which magnolia you are interested in.
