Green Team Spring Cleaning Tips

Spring is almost here and some of us may be tackling some spring cleaning soon. Memphis Zoo Green Team is here to help with ways to get your household in cleaning mode.

Involve the whole family

Shop your home before buying new, use up what you have at home.

Declutter and donate unwanted items

Open the windows and let in fresh air

Line dry your clothes

Use reusable cloths and tools - cut up rags from worn-out clothing - and ditch those paper towels

Recycle responsibly

Use green household cleaners

Here are some everyday products you can use to clean that are better for your health, budget and most importantly the environment. You probably already have some of these items in your pantry or fridge.

Vinegar is the strongest of all the items you’ll see listed here. It can help eliminate mildew, odors, stains and grease.

Lemon juice can help tone down the smell of the vinegar and other natural cleaners. The acidity in lemons is also a great tool to get rid of bacteria.

Baking soda is another tool to have in your cleaning arsenal. Baking soda combined with other products on this list can clean, eliminate odors and soften water.

Castile Soap is a great alternative for laundry detergent and dish soap. It’s made with olive oil, water and lye.

Essential Oils are a great added touch you can give your homemade cleaners for a fresh scent.
