Get Involved at the Memphis Zoo!

Have you always wanted to work at the zoo, but maybe don’t want to devote all your time here? Volunteering is a great way to get involved with events and all things happening at the zoo! We have a wide range of volunteer opportunities here at the zoo from general volunteers, to special event volunteers, to docents. General volunteers are long-term individuals who adhere to an ongoing schedule and come to the zoo regularly to assist with various daily operations. Special event volunteers work in various seasons during special events that take place at the zoo. These volunteers must be 14 years and older. Docents are volunteers who educate the public about our animals at the exhibit areas, conduct scheduled tours of the zoo, and assist in a wide variety of educational needs. Docents are important members of the zoo community that bring to their role a deep interest in the natural world and a desire to share that knowledge with others. These specialized volunteers show their commitment through ongoing training and a committed schedule. There’s a place for everyone here at the zoo! Would you like to dip your toe in the water and see what working at the Memphis Zoo looks like? We have internships in almost every area of the zoo where you can jump in and learn exactly what it’s like to have your dream job at the zoo. Internships are primarily for college-aged students who will be given a set length of time to gain practical experience within their desired field. Check out the list of internships available on our website!
