WILD ENCOUNTER PROGRAMS

Our Wild Encounter programs are for small groups of up to 15 people.
You may choose from three different types of private encounters with
our animal ambassadors, as described below. Program cost includes
admission to the Zoo for all group members for the day, but does not
include Zoo parking. The Education Department staff will work with you
to ensure your Encounter is something you will remember for a
lifetime. Please dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes.
Children must be at least four years of age and accompanied by an

Animal Encounter
$125 Members; $200 Nonmembers
Approximately thirty minutes in length
Make a date with one of our animal ambassadors for an up-close and
personal visit. The Docent Animal Presenters will help you discover
interesting and fun facts about your special ambassador from our
Education Department during this 30 minute encounter. Some of our
animal ambassadors you may visit with include an owl, armadillo,
reptile, parrot, chinchilla, hedgehog, or even a porcupine. Please

ZOO Encounter
$200 Members; $275 Nonmembers
Approximately thirty minutes in length
Our Zoo Encounter program takes
place out in the Zoo where your group will have the opportunity to
experience one of our exhibits and its animals in a fun and personal
way. These programs can include anything from a special keeper chat to
an animal enrichment session, and they offer you a way to get to know
your favorite Zoo animals better. Part of the program fee will go
directly towards the care of these animals. Please call to see if your
favorite Zoo critters can be incorporated into one of these programs.
Animal Edventure
$350 Members; $400 Nonmembers
Approximately ninety minutes in length
This program is a double
adventure. First, your group will spend time in a classroom with a Zoo
educator who will lead you through the fun fact-finding portion of this
educational adventure. You’ll be able to meet a variety of animals up
close and personal, all the while learning about the Edventure topic of
your choice. The second portion of your program will take place out in
the Zoo at one of our exhibits, where you’ll get a chance to experience
our Zoo animals in a new and exciting way. Part of the program fee
will go directly towards the care of these animals. From our
pre-designed programs below, you will work with one of our educators to
customize your Edventure experience.
Pre-designed programs include:
- China Edventure – Focuses on giant pandas, but can also include
small-clawed otters, white-cheeked gibbons, and other animals in our
China Exhibit
- Flying Edventure – Learn about bats and birds
- Herpetarium Edventure – Learn about amphibians, lizards, tortoises and
snakes
- Modern Dinosaur Edventure – Focuses on dragons, crocodiles
and gator species
- Penguins Rock Edventure – Get up-close and
personal with our penguins
- The Unhuggable Edventure – Learn about
porcupines, armadillos, anteaters and hedgehogs
- Water World
Edventure – Focuses on sea lions, fishes, anemones, sea urchins and
brittle stars
Although you will have an up-close and personal experience with our animal ambassadors many are not touchable and we cannot guarantee that you will have an opportunity to touch any animal. Sometimes certain animals may not be available due to various circumstances in which case your educator will work with you to provide the next best opportunity.
