What happens during a Birthday Party Zoo Snooze?
Each Zoo Snooze starts with a fun and educational animal experience based on the program topic of your choice (see below). Your students will have a chance to learn about and meet a variety of animals up close and personal.
Afterwards, the group will enjoy a Moonlight Safari through the Zoo, where you’ll visit some of our indoor exhibits, as well as take a special behind-the-scenes tour of our Nutrition Center. When your group returns to the classroom, there will be time for games or activities, depending again on your topic choice. Before bed, we offer a light snack and a movie, and lights go out typically around 10:00 p.m.
In the morning, your group will be awakened around 7:00 a.m. for a continental breakfast before packing up belongings and moving them back to your vehicles. Then you’ll take one more tour through the Zoo before the Zoo is opened to the public at 9:00 a.m.

Animal Adaptations Snooze
|
- An ‘adaptation’ is anything about a plant or an animal that helps it to survive in its environment. From a giraffe’s long neck to a tortoise’s shell, and from a rat’s whiskers to a bird’s beak, come and learn how animals stay alive in the wild.
|
|
Beautiful Birds Snooze
|
|
- It takes more than feathers to make a bird a bird. Come learn about how these amazing creatures fly, swim, walk, and sometimes, even talk! This Snooze includes an owl pellet dissection for every three participants.
|
|
|
Endangered Species Snooze
-
Our Endangered Species Snooze focuses on more than just endangered
animals. Your group will also learn about how these creatures become
endangered, as well as things we all can do to help protect them.
|
|
Exploring China Snooze
-
This Snooze celebrates the Memphis Zoo’s China Exhibit by focusing on
Chinese culture and the animals that are native to the area, such as
the Giant Panda.
|
|
Fabulous Frogs Snooze
-
Frogs do more than hop and croak! These slimy creatures can also tell
us about the health of our planet. Find out exactly how frogs and their
amphibian friends help us, and learn how we can help them, too. This
Snooze includes a frog dissection for every five participants.
|
|
Marvelous Mammals Snooze
-
At this Snooze your group will learn about mammals and the things that
set them apart from other animals. We’ll also discuss how mammals are
classified, or grouped into families according to the different things
they have in common with one another.
|
|
Nocturnal Adventures Snooze
-
At our most popular Snooze, your group will learn about nocturnal
creatures, or those animals that wake up when the sun goes down. This
Snooze includes an owl pellet for dissection for every three
participants.
|
|
No Place like Home Snooze
-
A ‘habitat’ is more than just a place where animals live. It must
contain proper food, water, shelter, and space for every creature that
calls it home. Come and learn about different types of habitats found
around the world. Participants will even have a chance to make their
very own habitat model.
|
Navigating the Northwest Snooze
-
This Snooze focuses on animals that live in Northwestern North America,
including sea lions, snowy owls, and polar bears. Come learn how these
animals stay alive in a harsh environment and how we, here in the
Mid-South, can help them survive.
|
|
|
Radical Reptiles Snooze
-
Do you know the difference between a turtle and a tortoise, or a
crocodile and an alligator? How about what separates a lizard from a
snake? After participating in this Snooze, you’ll know all that, and
more.
