Admission Price Change

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis Zoo has submitted a $2 increase on its admission prices tothe City of Memphis Division of Parks. The new prices are scheduled to be in effect onJanuary 1, 2010.   General admission to the Zoo has not been increased since March 2005. The new pricestructure will be $15 for adults ages 12 to 59, $14 for seniors ages 60 or older, $10 forchildren ages 2 to 11, and children under age 2 are still admitted free. Ann the Python Passes Away

The Memphis Zoo’s largest snake, a reticulated python, died this morning.  “Ann,” an 18-year-old snake, lived at the Memphis Zoo for more than 10 years.  Ann was a crowd favorite at the Memphis Zoo’s Herpetarium exhibit, home to the Zoo’s reptiles and amphibians.   A necropsy is being preformed for research and to determine an exact cause of death.  Reticulated pythons have an average lifespan of 15 years. MEMPHIS ZOO MOURNS LOSS OF AFRICAN ELEPHANT CALF

It is with tremendous sadness that the Memphis Zoo announces that the newborn elephant calf has died.   The calf stumbled while walking through the exhibit shortly before 10:00am Wednesday morning.   Asali was trying to assist the calf back to its feet when she accidentally injured the newborn with her tusk. It's a Girl!

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – “Asali,” an African elephant at the Memphis Zoo gave birth to a female calf at approximately 10:23pm on July 6 after a gestation of 1 year, 9 months, and 15 days.  Currently, Asali and her calf are in healthy, stable condition.   The pregnancy is a result of the Zoo’s continued participation in the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ (AZA) plans to grow the captive population of elephants. Memphis Zoo Concludes Investigation into Tiger Bite Incident

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Zoo’s investigation into Sunday’s incident has concluded that it was human error that allowed a Bengal tiger to bite the lower leg of its keeper.
