1) Slimy Forest Friends – A close encounter with exotic
frogs and toads and a fun activity to teach the value of being slimy.
Children will be introduced to several varieties of frogs and toads,
and be permitted to touch them. A Zookeeper will be present to talk and
answer questions. Children will be tossed a water balloon to catch.
Then, another water balloon covered with harmless, but gross, green
slime (corn starch, food color, and water) will be tossed to the kids
and they will have fun trying to catch and hold onto it, and imagine
how gross it would taste! The Zookeeper will educate the kids about
amphibians while they get to meet weird frogs and have a blast with
slime!
2) Snakey Meet & Greet –
For those boys and girls who love snakes (they exist) a zookeeper will
bring up several harmless tame snakes for the kids to touch, hold and
enjoy. Plenty of opportunity for parents to get photos of their
children holding the snakes.
3) Getting Bugged – A
Zookeeper will bring an assortment of bizarre bugs and harmless
spiders, including tarantulas, giant millipedes, and huge tropical
cockroaches. Kids will get to handle these and have photos taken. Not
for the squeamish!!
4) Giant Turtle Encounter –
(April 15 – October 15 ONLY). The birthday party will be escorted to
the giant tortoise lot, where they will walk right up to giant 400 lb.
Tortoise. These animals are truly gentle giants, and will thrill the
kids by eating bananas given to the children beforehand. Smaller tots
(up to 80 lbs.) will be allowed to sit on the tortoises for
photographs, and may get a free ride courtesy of the turtle!
5) Nature Walk through the Overton Park Forest –
Join a zookeeper on a walk through the trails of the Overton Park Forest. Along the way, the group may see a variety of bugs and
birds, but the focus of these walks will be snakes. A once in a
lifetime chance to go snake hunting with a herpetologist for any
budding young herpetologists in the family. Age restriction 6 and up;
groups limited to 10, or larger groups may be split-up.
6) Aquarium Feeding Frenzy –
Birthday partiers get a special behind-the-scenes tour of the Aquarium
and see the fish at their most exciting --- when the Zoo Keeper offers
the daily banquet of minnows, beefheart, and fruits. Watch as Piranhas
devour their prey, or the giant Amazonian catfish swallow chunks of
meat. The keeper will let the Birthday boy or girl help with the
feeding.
7) Guided Tour of Cat Country
- Enjoy a special tour of one of Cat Country where these party goers
will learn all about our feline friends. Cat Country houses some of the
word's biggest cats like the African lion and the Sumatran Tiger to the
sleekest and fastest cat around, the cheetah. You'll learn about each
of these on a more personal level through this special tour.
8) Guided Tour of Once Upon A Farm
- As one of the most interactive exhibits in the Zoo, Once Upon A Farm
gives visitors the chance to get up close and personal with the animals
as they learn about life on the farm. You'll be greeted by friendly
goats and sheep, and may even see a rooster walking right next to
you.
9) Meet a Penguin – Come
nose to nose with one of our penguins at the Penguin Rock exhibit.
Learn from the keeper facts and interesting patterns of penguin life.
Sorry, NO TOUCHING ALLOWED.
10) Meet Molly the Anteater -
Molly, our female anteater, will come and visit the children. She loves
to climb on the branches the zookeeper will bring, and the kids will
get a chance to watch her play and eat honey from a tube with her
10-inch tongue.
11) The Lil' Memphis Zoo - Docents
bring several special animal ambassadors to greet your group with a
special birthday visit! You never know which of our animals will show
up but you can be assured of a wide variety of animal visitors at your
party. Those who may visit could be “Willie” the screech owl, “Bloom”
the hedgehog, “Tank” the three banded armadillo or even “Monty” the
ball python, along with several of their friends.
12) Charo the Warthog - Want to liven things up a bit for your Zoo birthday party? Go wild and invite the Zoo's new
warthog baby, "Charo," to join in on the festivities.
