The votes are counted, and memphiszoo.org vistors picked the name "Sesi" for the newest member of the Memphis Zoo's giraffe herd!
"Sesi" is a Swahili word meaning "sister."

after 7 a.m. on October 10, “Sarabi,” a 13-year-old reticulated giraffe gave birth to the female calf while she was standing in the Giraffe night house.

For the second time in almost as many months, a baby reticulated giraffe was born at the Memphis Zoo.

The Memphis Zoo staff welcomed a baby reticulated giraffe born today around noon on August 29, 2008.
Female giraffe “Marilyn” and male giraffe “Kenya” are the proud parents of the Zoo’s newest arrival. This is the second successful birth of a baby giraffe at the Memphis Zoo in the last two years; “Angela Kate” was born November 5, 2006, and was the Zoo’s first giraffe birth since 1995.
