VOLUNTEER OR INTERN AT THE ZOO


Thank you for your interest in the Memphis Zoo's volunteer program. We are very pleased to have an active and dedicated group of volunteers making a difference at the Memphis Zoo.

VOLUNTEERS:

Have a group that wants to volunteer? Attention Civic Organizations: We Need Your Help!
If your organization is looking for opportunities to contribute volunteer hours, please consider the Memphis Zoo! We offer a fun and exciting atmosphere, and there are many different ways you group can help.  Submit the Group Volunteer Application. DOCENTS:

Ready to move to the next level of volunteer work here at the Zoo?  Become a docent.  A docent is a specially trained Zoo volunteer who interacts with the public at animal exhibits, gives guided tours, assists with educational classes, volunteers with special events as well as a variety of other activities that aid the Zoo in fulfilling its mission.


If you have a few hours a week to come to the Zoo, you can be part of one of the most fun and satisfying volunteer programs anywhere ...  and we’ll train you!  Click here for more information on becoming a docent.




Internships:

Qualifications: All applicants must have completed their freshman year at an accredited college or university, and must be maintaining at least a 3.0 GPA in the area of their major. Only applicants majoring in the sciences will be considered for animal care internships, however students in any field may apply for administrative positions. All Memphis Zoo internships are unpaid. Interns will be considered volunteers, and will operate under the supervision of the Volunteer Coordinator, as well as their animal area supervisiors.

The Memphis Zoo will be happy to facilitate any projects or presentations deemed necesssary for credit. ALL PROJECTS MUST BE APPROVED IN ADVANCE BY ZOO STAFF SUPERVISOR.
