CONSERVATION DEPARTMENT

Our Mission Statement: To use science and technology for greater understanding of the natural world's ecosystems, to preserve the biodiversity of our plants and animals and to educate the public on conservation priorities.
At the Memphis Zoo, we have dedicated ourselves to "preserving wildlife through conservation, education and research". As the number of plants and animals threatened with extinction grows, the Memphis Zoo is working to expedite conservation, research and sustainable development in order to preserve our natural world.
We are committed to developing programs that will have a significant impact upon the long-term success and partnerships necessary for conservation.
CONSERVATION ACTION NETWORK (C.A.N.)

Since
its formal establishment, the Memphis Zoo's Conservation Action
NetworkCommittee (C.A.N.) has funded more than $100,000 in over than 10
field conservation projects. These conservation initiatives have taken
place in countries like Kenya, Indonesia, Costa Rica, Philippines,
Russia, Brazil, Belize and the West Indies and have spanned the realms
of species conservation throughout the world.
Funds for these
conservation efforts are continuously raised through special events
such as Wild World of Wines, donations in the wishing wells and
reflecting pool and a special program through Zoo membership asking members to consider adding to their annual membership contribution to C.A.N.
