The Memphis Zoo is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Any lost found items are turned in at the reception lobby and put into the “Lost and Found” bin.

The guidelines for keeping items are as follows:

  • Drivers’ licenses and ID cards will be held a minimum of 7 days before being destroyed.
  • Passports and visas will be held a minimum of 7 days before being sent to the U.S. Bureau of Consular Affairs.
  • Debit and Credit cards will be held a minimum of 7 days before being destroyed.
  • Articles of clothing, non-prescription sunglasses, or other misc. items are held a minimum of 30 days before being donated to charity.
  • Prescription eyeglasses, prescription sunglasses or reading glasses will be donated to the Lion’s Club for eyeglass re-use after a minimum of 30 days.
  • Cell phones will be recycled after a minimum of 30 days.
  • Cash will be held a minimum of 30 days before being donated to C.A.N.
  • Jewelry or other items that may be of considerable value will be held a minimum of 60 days before being donated to charity.
  • Keys will be held a minimum of 60 days before being destroyed.
  • Wallets and purses will be held for at least 60 days. Memphis Zoo Security then reserves the right to separate and distribute the items contained therein anyway they deem appropriate, including but not limited to goodwill, cash donation to C.A.N., etc.
  • Non-disposable cameras and camera accessories will be held a minimum of 60 days before either being donated to charity or confiscated by the Zoo.
Please note: We will make every effort to contact the owners of recovered items. Once the owner has been contacted, we will hold an item for an additional 14 days, calling the owner again on day 7. If the owner still has not picked up said item or arranged for pick up, it will be donated to charity.

We understand that some of our visitors do not live within a distance in which they can travel to pick up an item. An item may be shipped UPS ground at the owners expense using a credit or debit card number. Guests may also contact the receptionist at (901) 333-6500 ext. 0 for other shipping options.
