ZOO ACADEMY 2009

This week long educational program will provide exciting and interactive ways for students to learn about science.  Each class includes animal visits, tours of exhibits, chats with keepers, special projects, dissections (3rd -12th Grade) and much more!


WILD LOVIN'

February 7

It’s an important and fun part of life. Procreation is essential for all species to survive.  Through this program, you’ll learn about the odd, strange, beautiful, and sometimes awkward ways that animals court and mate!
 

BADGE-IN-A-DAY

February 7, 21 or 28*
Time: 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
$25 per child for members (includes one adult)
$35 per child for nonmembers

An exciting program geared toward Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts, the Badge-in-a-Day program will give your scout the opportunity to earn a badge while participating in fun, educational, and interactive activities including crafts, live animal visits, experiments, and tours of the Zoo! Please visit the Zoo’s website for available badges!  Limited space and dates available!  All participants are responsible for acquiring the earned badge through their local council. Limited to 30 Girl or Cub Scouts (does not include parents).

Join us for fine dining with Chef Partner Jackson Kramer of Interim and Sole Restaurant & Bar along with the exquisite tastes of Executive Chef Matthew Crone. Southwestern Distributors will pair each ourse with a meticulously chosen wine, enhancing your dining experience.

One adult per child admitted free. Additional adults pay price listed above. Programs include animal encounters, games and crafts, and a tour of a portion of the Zoo. Dates and topics are listed below.
 
 

JUNIOR ZOO CREW

Cost: $30- Zoo Member; $40- Non Member- per session
Ages: 10-12 years

Come join us this year as we explore wild careers found outside of the zoo world. From ecologists to scatologists, we’ll take a look at some of the wildest careers around while experiencing behind-the-scenes tours, games, keeper chats, hands-on projects, and more. We’ll even meet some of our Zoo critters up close. Please plan to dress for the weather and for getting dirty, and don’t forget to bring a non-refrigerated, non-microwaveable lunch.

 

HORTICULTURE TOUR

Have you ever wanted to know more about the beautiful plants at the Memphis Zoo? Have you wondered why certain plants are planted in certain places, or which ones would grow well at your house? Here’s your chance to find out! This year the zoo is offering a series of brand new horticulture tours for members. Join zoo horticulturist Jill Maybry for walking tours through various areas of the zoo, and learn more about our lush plant-life.

 

SPRING BREAK CAMP

March 16 – 20
9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; aftercare 3:00p.m.-5:30 p.m.
Members:  $35 per day / aftercare $10/members per day,
Nonmembers:  $45 per day / aftercare $15/nonmembers per day

Ages: PreK-K (12 spaces), 1st-2nd (20 students), 3rd-6th (20 students)

 “Radical Rainforest Adventure”
Rainforest are colorful, loud, wet and so much more. Through interactive activities, games, crafts, stories, amazing biofacts and visits from real rainforest animals, students will be transported to the rainforests of the world. Come join us as we explore the layers, animals, plants, and reasons this important ecosystem is threatened and how we can help save it.


ANNUAL ZOO PLANT SALE

April 24 - 26
Choose from a wide selection of annuals, perennials, tropicals, herbs, and vegetable plants, as well as unusual and hard-to-find shrubs and trees, and a select number of water plants, house plants, and cacti and succulents.
