We here at the Memphis Zoo have received a tremendous amount of support from the community for Asali and our staff during this difficult time.
The elephant keepers had taken to affectionately calling the calf "Lil' Girl" during the course of their care. This was fitting, as her mother “Asali” was often called “Lil’ One.” We’d like to officially recognize the name with all of our supporters.
Today, around 270 elephants live in 77 AZA-accredited zoos....
